You've got to check this game out. Take some time and go play it. It's fun. I love grabbing people and throwing them around to watch them die. Maybe, I'm just a little sick sometimes.

One problem with the game -- for some reason -- it doesn't actually save. Unless something is eating my cookies every night.

Rotate

I found this game called Rotate². You have got to take some time and check it out. It is very addicting. The idea is to rotate the pipes so that every end is closed. Sounds pretty simple and it is. The game gets progressively harder as you go along. Close a pipe here, but that rotation causes you to open an end somewhere else. I've made it up to 250 IQ points and I had to stop. I have a life to lead. I'm hoping the game stores a cookie, so I can just pick up from where I left off, but I don't know that yet. Anyway, please check it out.

Raiden X

Raiden X is a "RaidenX is a 2D vertical-shooter Flash game. There are 8 levels and this new version allows you to save your game after each level." I literally stumbled upon this game and gave it a try. There are 8 levels and the ability to save your game at each level makes this a nice game to pass the time. I thought the boss on the first level was too easy, but he came back again. This is a good game, especially for those of us who aren't necessarily hard core gamers. This isn't Halo.
Here is a screen print from right after I finished the first level. Just try and top that!

ManMachine

Okay, all of my regular readers know that I'm not really into sci fi or epic comics. But, I do love hearing from their artists and writers and I love checking them out.
Well, I got word about one called ManMachine and it is an awesome comic.
I didn't get to read as much of it as I wanted, but I wanted to pass it on to all of you ASAP!
Now, as you may or may not know, my personal laptop with the 17" screen died a while ago and I'm doing everything now on a little ASUS Eee PC 1000HE 10.1-Inch Blue Netbook nice PC, but it makes viewing websites such as ManMachine's hard to read.
Anyway, the artwork is unbelieveable and the side sliding of the comic, at least to me, is totally amazing.

I'll bet you've been wondering where I've been. We had a death in the family and I just stopped reading online comics. My heart just wasn't in it.
But, I'm back and this time, I have a plan. First, I'm going to go through all my old emails to see which comics to read next and second, I'll be moving this blog to share webspace with my political blog. I think it'll serve both of us well in the long run.
I'll be exporting the blog over the next several days and I'll post an announcement when I truly move everything.

Three Years -- A Lot of Comics

I've been writing comic reviews on and off for the last three years. In that time, I've posted a lot of reviews. So, I thought I'd take some time, go over the old reviews and revisit some of them. Not to re-review them, but just to see if they're still out there. I discovered that a lot of the comics I once reviewed are now defuncted.

So, if you look to the right, you'll notice that I've uploaded more comics. These are logos (at least the ones I have) for every comic I've reviewed that is still in business. If you haven't all ready checked them out, please give them a try. If you checked them out when I first reviewed them, then, please check them out again.

Manson Family

I'm all for showing people compassion. I'm all for giving people a second chance. But, there are just some crimes that are so horrendous that even forty years later, I don't think the criminals who committed them should be shown any compassion.

Apparently, the Manson family members seem to differ.

Susan Atkins is suffering from terminal cancer. She has requested -- and been refused -- a compassionate release. Are you kidding me? Does she really think that anyone who remembers the horror the Manson family inflicted upon Sharon Tate and the others who died with her would ever think she deserves compassion now? Actually, I think her terminal illness might actually be a case of justice. She's almost completely paralyzed and she can't even be placed in a wheelchair. There is a very small place inside my heart where I think, "Wow, that's a horrible death. No one should die like that." And, then I remember that Susan Atkins was the one who wrote Pig on the door in her victims' blood. Even though I was just a little girl (and living on the other side of the country) and have no first hand memory, the grandmother in me feels for Sharon Tate's mother. I'll bet she was making plans of holding her grandchild -- the same kind I was making a couple of months ago before Kim had little Nickie. But, Susan Atkins killed Sharon and her mother's grandmotherly dreams went up in smoke. And, now Susan Atkins wants to be allowed to go free? That would be a miscarriage of justice.

Apparently, all of the other Manson family members have seen the errors of their ways and they want to be free. Tex Watson is reportedly a minister. Too bad they hadn't seen the error of their ways prior to August of 1969. Who knows what Sharon Tate's child could've grown to become and for that reason alone, the Manson family should spend all eternity in prison.

PS. Even Jesus said render unto Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's. Spending their natural lives in prison would be paying back Caesar in my opinion.

I got a email asking me to please review the online comic Tales of Vanima Forest. The email said, "It got elves, and will feature transformers." How can I not check out a comic that has both elves and transformers? Life is just way too short.

Small Wonder

Small Wonder is a comic about a boy, Newt, and his skunk, Nigel. If that isn't enough to get you to read this comic, I'm not really sure what it would take. The comic is funny and has poignant moments. I do have a complaint. The archives are missing comics from April 7 to April 28 for last year. I'm not sure if Worth knows this. I'd send him an email, but I didn't see one on the site. Other than that, this comic is not to be missed.

End of the World

How do I describe End of the World? I've been trying to get through the archives for a very long time. I start reading them, get distracted and can't remember where it was I stopped at. So, I go at them again.

But, not this time. This time I sat down and read through the three years of archives all at once. I was not about to be deterred. This was business. I had a review to write.

The cast stars Brian and Brandt - two guys who live miles apart, but thanks to a cactus named Butch, they're able to be in the same room. Butch can teleport himself and others to different locations.

The artwork is good. The storyline will keep you coming back for more. You've got to check this comic out.

Urban Jungle

David Wilborn has created a terrific strip in Urban Jungle. The strip follows Zack who is a software developer for a large pharmaceutical company. Sounds hilarous, doesn't it? Did I mention that all of Zack's co-workers are animals? When Les -- Zack's supervisor -- fires a hamster, he does it by eating him. If that isn't funny, I really don't know what is. The strip has a small archive, so now is a good time to start reading through it and get in on the fun.

i can't draw feet is an interesting comic written by Eddie Drury and drawn by Tjin Chong. The comic doesn't have a plot or a storyline. The comic is funny and thoughtful. I'm not even done reading the archives and I had to race to my keyboard in order to write the review. Afterall, what if I get hit by a bus and never got the chance to let you know about this wonderful comic? That would be tragic.

Epiphany Park is a comic strip that is about family and politics. The name of the strip comes from the neighborhood the strip's family (Akili, Sasha and N'zinga (Akili and Sasha's daughter). The artwork is very good and the strips range from poignant to funny. This strip is definitely worth checking out.

Do You Work Here?

Do You Work Here? is a nice comic. It is very true to life. The comic follows employees at a Super Mart, which is a large retail store. Now, I've never worked that kind of retail, but I have worked for companies with clueless management -- you know who you are. I have heard customers make the kinds of ridiculous statements they make in Do You Work Here?.

On a side note, for the comic dated 9/29/2008, the blog post said that "The only thing people really deserve is a place to live, food to eat, and freedom from impending death. Anything else is a bonus. You think you deserve a new car? A bigger TV? You don’t. Just shut up and pay your rent." I happen to disagree. My car has nearly 200,000 miles on it and I do thing I deserve a new one. However; I do agree with the New Year comic that 2008 sucked. It was probably one of the worst years I've ever had!

If you work in retail or know someone who does, you should check out this comic. If you buy retail, you should check out this comic.

Addanac City is a comic about an annoying 7 year old boy named Hank. When you look in the dictionary under attitude, there's a picture of Hank. Hank lives with his parents and hangs out with his buddy, Tim. The comic has made me laugh outloud. The artwork is nice -- it looks better if you click on it. My only complaint is that the archive isn't very easy to go through. I couldn't find a logo, so I've stolen a comic to put here. I hope you enjoy it.

Geek Blather

I started reading Geek Blather thinking it was going to be a gaming comic and it was -- sort of -- for a little while. Then, I got hooked on the characters and the storyline and I've had to read the archives to the end. Despite the fact that Quinn - one of the Creators - hates Country. (How can anyone hate Country? That's just so WRONG!)

Moving on...

The story follows six main characters -- Ayen, Gwydia, Rae, Agate, Kipp (Sparky) and Marcus -- through the trials and tribulations of high school. The artwork is very good and the dialogue is realistic. I love the internal dialogues the characters have.

Anyway, this is a pretty good comic and I think you'll like it, so take some time to check it out.

Gone With Blastwave

Anyone who has read this blog through the years knows that I like bright, funny, happy strips. A storyline is okay, a little mystery is fine, but basically I'm not into the dark comics with heavy plots. I'll review them and post them for others to enjoy, but they're not really my thing. Also, you all know I HATE to post a review without a logo.

But, today, I'm going to break my rules.

I was recently surfing from one comic to another and -- sorry -- I don't remember how I found this strip, but I found a link to Gone With Blastwave. I clicked on it and didn't really take it in until now.
The graphics on this comic are so undescribably good. I'm not even sure how to mention them to you. When I took a good look, I thought, well, I have to review this one, even though I was positive I wouldn't actually like it.

{Note to self: Don't judge a comic by it's cover}

I'm not really sure what's going on in the strip. I think it is about two guys in a war zone, but I'm not sure what war zone, but it doesn't matter. Something about blues, reds and yellows. It's dark and funny. And, the drawings are amazing. So, note to you: Don't judge a comic by it's cover and give this one a try.

Another Dark Comic. You guys need to check this out. It's like reading a comic book right on my computer screen. It does have a much deserve Parental Advisory. It updates once a week on Thursdays and I think you should check it out. Anarchy is very well done and amazing.

Bear Nuts

What can I say about Bear Nuts?
If you're looking for a strip that shows the cute interactions between humans and our furry friends -- this isn't it.
If you're looking for a strip that is classy -- um, this isn't it, either.
But, if you're looking for a strip that shows man's inhumanity to man, ah, no, that's not it, either. Huh.
Wait, I've got it, if you're looking for a strip about a bunch of bears living in a zoo -- this is the place. You are going to laugh your butt off. This is a funny, funny strip. It is well drawn and nicely done. It's like the Care Bears on acid. I've loved every strip I've read.
I predict you will too.

Road Crew

I'd like to say that I love the tagline for this comic "Not everyone can be a rock star." It's so true. And, not just in rock star life, but in everyday life. Too many times the real work is done by people who never get any credit. So, when I was asked to review this comic, I thought, "Yeah, I'll do it -- for the ones who never get the spotlight."
ahem...Sorry, I got a little carried away.
I'd, also, like to start this review by saying right upfront, this is most definitely NOT a comic for the young fans. The language is a little rough, there's some nudity and I wouldn't read this one in front of my grandchildren.
The artwork isn't slick, but you can see improvements as the strip develops. The jokes can be a little crude, but sometimes, I like a crude.
I think if you like rock music and you want to see a comedic reveal of what's behind the scenes, you should check out Road Crew.

Logo Contest

Okay, comic fans, I'm going to do a little begging. See that crappy online comics logo up at the top of the page? Take a look, I'll wait.

It's horrible, isn't it? You know why? Because I can't draw -- those who can't, critique.

So, I got this great idea -- starting March 1st, I will hold a contest for a new logo design. Each week (or day if I get a lot of entries), I will post the entries. The one that gets the most votes (or I like best if there is a tie) will be my new logo.

And, what does the artist get?

You get to post your site's logo at the top of my page for one year. If you run an online comic - and I haven't all ready reviewed it -- I'll post a review. If I have reviewed it, I'll review it again. The only catch is that once you submit the logo, it's mine to use -- on my site, in advertising, whatever. You can use it where ever you want to showcase your work, but the one year of free advertising on the top of my page is the only "payment" you will receive. I would prefer a logo that is 600 pixels by 480, however, if you produce one that's awesome and doesn't fit the banner mode, I won't protest.

Gene's Journal

Before I even began reading the comic, I thought to myself that this has to be one of the strangest premises for a comic. The comic is based on Gene Roddenberry -- you know, the creator of "Star Trek" -- sort of based, I should say. Cartoonist David Reddick has created a comic on what Roddenberry's life might have been as a child. No, that's not right -- yes, what his life might have been like as a child if he had aliens for friends. That's better.
The website is very professionally done. Nice graphics, nice set up. I really like it. The comic updates every Monday and Wednesday.
And, this'll come as no shock, I love it. I laughed outloud. Now, I do have to say a couple of things were just slightly racy, just a little, so I wouldn't let the under 10 set read it, but the comic is safe for the over ten set. I don't think that matters, as I don't think the under ten set would read it anyway, but kids grow so fast these days, so who knows. I realize that that logo I've swiped from the site also advertises Rod & Barry, but sadly, I forgot to ask them for a logo to use for this review. However; I just might be reviewing Rod & Barry, so this'll work.
And, yes, I know I said I wouldn't post the review until tomorrow, but I couldn't wait.

What the Hell Happened?

Well, I'll tell you what happened... Life happened. I got busy at work, I was trying to read all the comics that were suggested and I just shut down, which is what I had said I wouldn't do -- so I'm sorry about that.

So, keep the comic suggestions coming -- I'm back and this time I mean it. It is time to start setting my priorities right. Work will just have to wait. I have to come home sometime. So, I have a couple of new suggestions in my email. Today, I'll read one comic and tomorrow, you my gentle readers will have one new review.

Since I own the original Touchmaster, I couldn't wait for my copy of Touchmaster 2 to arrive. I pre-ordered two copies so the two DS players in my house wouldn't have to fight over the game. I'm really sorry I did that.
First, I thought this game would include more solitare card games along with challenging action games. Games that I could play when I'm sitting in the doctor's office. In reality, none of the games -- save two -- are all that challenging.
Let me break it down. I'm not going to go over all the games, but enough to give you an idea.
Combo 11 is not only very easy to master, it is way too easy to play. It doesn't leave much skill, such as the Pairs game in the original Touchmaster required. You can pretty much keep playing until you get bored and quit on your own. Simply put, you just match pairs that total 11.
Carpet is a cool game. There's some thought processes you need in order to continue playing. I find it challenging. You build from Aces in each suit, but your playing field is limited at each level, so it becomes challenging as you go along.
Speed solitare is a joke. I played twenty continous times without losing one game.
Speed Demon is a car driving game that you can't lose. No skill there. Trust me when I say a three year old can master it -- I've seen it done.
Bowling fairs a little better, but still so easy that my three year old grandson has almost mastered it.
Super Mahki is less challenging than in the original and you can't change (or I just haven't figured out how) the blocks.
Dice King is a cross between Mahki and Yahtzee. This game is challenging, frustrating and more fun for me.
I'm not too keen on having this little mascot. I don't see the purpose. I miss the favorites startup and the list of games is three less than the original Touchmaster.
Overall, I'm really disappointed, because I paid full price and I rarely pay full price for a game. I'm going to keep the games only because of my aforementioned grandson. He loves to play "bowling" and "cars" when he comes to visit. I'm keeping the game because of him.
I hope the Touchmaster team puts out another game, but I'd like to see them get back to the kinds of games that they had the first time.
My advice -- wait until the price drops and then buy this, especially if you have a little guy that likes bowling and car games.
If you don't own the original, buy that one instead.

Just a quick note, so you all know that I haven't fallen off the face of the earth. I have a few reviews waiting to be written on some great comics coming up. I'm trying to find time to read the archives and write the reviews. Work has been nuts and I don't seem to have any time at home to just sit quietly and read, so please bare with me.

Fact Checks

Unless you're living underneath a rock, you know this is an election year. Unless you're refusing to check your email, you're receiving chain letters claiming this or that about one candidate or the other. Unless you only use your TV to play X-box, Play Station or Wii, you're seeing political ads that distort the views.

And, unless you don't care, you're pretty darn well sick of it. So am I, my friend, so am I.

Now, unless you just started reading my blog, you know that I run a political blog and you know that I keep my two blogs pretty well separated. So, please forgive me for bringing the ugly world of politics into comics and video games, but I just can't help myself.

There are a few sites I think everyone on both sides of the aisle should check out. These are sites that take the time to check out the claims both campaigns are making and they pass on the truth.

I'm writing this review because I said I would. I've mentioned Union of Heroes before and I'm guessing that most of my readers have all ready checked them out. However; if you haven't checked out this photocomic, you need to do so.

This comic is innovative. I haven't seen a photo comic done like this. It's slick, professional and well done.

The story here is that Mark is your average guy who finds out that there is a parallel universe in which he is a superhero. The comic is updated three days a week and since it is fairly new, you can catch up fairly quick.

A Little Different Approach

Normally, I read a comic's archives and write a review. Sometimes, I have contact with the artist because they contacted me asking me to review their comic. Sometimes, I contact the artist to ask permission to use a picture in the review or to get a logo from them. Usually, I don't get an opportunity to have a conversation or get questions answered.

This time Arne and Eric -- the two creators of Union of Heroes -- contacted me and asked if I would review their photocomic. They told me a little about the comic and I asked them some questions and Arne answered them in an email. So, instead of just reviewing the comic, I'm posting this "interview" first.

Here's an "interview" I conducted via email with Arne.

Where are you from?
We are two guys from Germany.

What makes Union of Heroes different?
We create the Union of Heroes – an online published professionally made photocomic about superheroes – with real actors and not action figures (which makes us quite unique – apart from the point that there are nearly no other non-parody superhero-comics from Germany at all.)

Since the comic uses actors and photos, what made you guys decide to do a webcomic?
I am a big comicfan and I read comics since I was born (with a really big collection of superheroes, mangas, european stuff, graphic novels and how-to-literature (like Scott McCloud, Will Eisner, etc.).
The problem is that I allways wanted to do a comic, but I can draw only in a funny style – which does not fit to the stories I want to tell. The idea of doing a photocomic arouse to me, when I was self-employed as a graphic-designer and our photographer Jens Sundheim asked me, if we could acquire customers together.
There was this giant flash hitting me. And I was thinking: "Hey! Why not do a photocomic? Financed by productplacement? About superheroes from Germany (because there are any of them which are not-parody and I wanted to change that for quite a long time).
I know - it is insane, and I do not know anybody who has ever tried this kind of thing (and method of financing for an onlinecomic before. But why not give it a try? I want to tell interesting stories. With real actors. And I want to make a living out of it. And I can only do so by giving this thing a try!
I convinced Jens to be our partner on this project and a little bit later Eric - whom I know since grammar school - joined me. The two of us had worked in an advertising agency together before. And now we made ourself self-employed with this idea...
We convinced a bank to give us a little credit. And now the only two things we need are readers, who like the stories we want to tell – and clients who want to appear somewhere in the stories.
Problem is, that the clients are interested – but only want to support us, when the number of readers is high enough. And when nobody knows you ... You have a little problem there.
Apart from this - it is the project of my dreams! It is such a wonderful thing, when you have these characters in your head, draw a little skribble - and then the photographer and the actors bring them to life - far better than I could have ever drawn them!

Where do the stories take place?
The stories are based in the german Ruhr Area - where we come from. The first stories takes place in Dortmund (where I live) and in Bochum. But later we want to visit other cities as well (the Union of Heroes has many members...)

Arne, thanks for the interview. To my readers, take the time to check out this new an innovated comic. I know I've seen photocomics (Tux and Bunny comes to mind), but not one with actual actors.

I have no idea who this guy is that's drawing/writing bullfinch, but he's a terrific artist and the story is very funny. I've never been to Vermont, so I really don't know if strange creatures such as the ones in the comic really live there or if he's just making them up. But, you have to read this brand new comic. Come on, a unicorn and a poltergist as a roommate? A cat that sells illegal cat nip out of the basement? Genius. Wait, the cat is white, so I think he stole that from my real life, but the rest just shows genius.

In my Inbox, I received the below comic from my cousin, Mark. Since I was brain dead, it took me a minute to realize the humor and then I LMAO. I asked him where he got it from and he said xkcd.

Now, I've been going through the archives and xkcd isn't like most webcomics. It isn't always a joke a day or even thought provoking, but most of the non-comic artwork is very good. The comics are very funny.

Good thing my Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution came. I'll be reviewing it quite soon, but I'm loving it so far. There's some limitations playing it on the DS as opposed to the PC version I played last, but it's nice to be able to carry it with me.

Eros Inc is a brand new webcomic written by Michael May. Mike sent me the suggestion to check out his comic -- see, I do answer my email. Anyway, I'm glad he did, because I like this comic. The comic is black and white and if I could be a little blunt, the text could be a little easier to read. The drawings do not have that professional gloss of a comic that's been around for a long while, but I think Mike's drawings show promise. The storyline confused me, but I think it's because I couldn't read the whole text.
Anyway, the whole idea is that there's a new cupid in town. The idea is cute and I think this comic is going to be around for a long, long time. I suggest you take the time to start reading it now, so you don't kick yourself for missing the beginning.
One note, slight cursing -- so it isn't for the kiddie set.

Happy Birthday, Sohmer!

Okay, by the time any of you read this -- Sohmer's 30th birthday will have past. Sorry about that. I just saw the posting regarding it just now. In honor of his birthday, you'd think I should review his comic, but I all ready did that. If you want to read it, check the archives. Moving on...

He's 30 and he thinks the end is near! LOL! He's funny. You don't see me complaining about my age. Sohmer, it's only a number (I'm writing this like he really has time to read my blog). Remember, today is the first day of the rest of your life! My 30's were terrific! You'll love being 30. Actually, I really loved being 35. I don't know why. Probably because the way I abused my body, I never really thought I'd live to 35. If I had known I would, I would have taken better care of myself!

And, while I'm on the subject of age, a long while back, I posted that the author of Ctrl+Alt+Del is a kid and someone commented that he isn't. Since Blind Ferret has something to do with both comics (Sohmer writes Least I Could Do), I'm guessing these guys are all around the same age and compared to me, they're kids! For Pete's Sake, my daughter is older than Sohmer! (Okay, truth be told, she's my step-daughter, but still!) I think everyone (with the exception of my brother Scott) younger than me is a kid. Scott's an exception because he's just old.

South Pole Strip

I've finally finished reading the archive for this strip. I have to say that it is absolutely hilarious! The jokes are refreshing, the storylines are fast paced. The drawings are excellent. That's the good news.

The I'm going to eat you joke might be a little stale, but outside of that, the comic is spot on! It helps that I love polar bears and penguns. Who doesn't?

Any of you still following the Daily Grind Iron Man Challenge? I bopped on over there tonight to check things out. I don't remember the date the contest started, but I know it was in 2005. There were originally 56 comic contenders. They're now down to 11. That's pretty impressive. I just post reviews of comics and I can't manage to post on a daily basis.

So, I just finished reading Bob's Your Uncle over at The Yak Shack and I was thinking about reviewing it. Then, I saw a note that the comics over there aren't being updated regularly, so I'd hate to send you to read a strip if the freshest comic up there is going to be the last one ever. I always find it to be a real downer to put in the effort to read the archives just to discover that the comic is done being updated.

Then, I started looking through my favorites to find a comic I've read that I haven't reviewed and I got nothing. I lost my huge comic list when my computer crashed before Christmas and I haven't had a chance to build it back up.

George Carlin

On my way into work this morning, I heard the news that George Carlin passed away yesterday from a heart attack. I can't tell you how bummed I am. I love George Carlin and quote him often -- even when I didn't realize it was him I was quoting! (Case in point: Everyone who drives slower than me is a moron and everyone who drives faster is a manaic. I always thought I came up with that, but it was Carlin.)

I remember listening to Class Clown when I was around 15 or 16. The album changed my life and made me a Carlin fan. I loved watching him in anything he chose to do -- stand up, movies or TV.

He will be truly missed.

I've been trying to finish reading the archive to George for the past month. I've been dealing with family and work issues and reading comics has been hit and miss. But, on to George...
I couldn't find a logo for George, so I swiped a comic. This is the one from 6/18. This comic is about a guy named George -- stands to reason -- his sane girlfriend, Amanda, and a hilarious cast of characters. If you lead a very quiet and unassuming life, these are the kinds or nuts you'd like to have hanging around. If you're life is like a granola bar, you're all ready hanging with a cast such as these.
I truly think you'll enjoy this comic. I know that I have enjoyed the many laughs provided by the comic.

Mario Kart Wii

This past weekend, I was in Green Bay visiting my grandsons and dropping off Cheryl for the week. Kim had purchased Mario Kart for the Wii, so naturally, I had to play it, too! Well, I had a blast, so I purchased my own version and I've been playing it ever since I got back.

All I can say is my employer should appreciate the fact that I bother to come in when I could be home mastering Mario Kart! I love the fact that you can play with friends online. I received an email asking me to review this webcomic. I answer and say that I'll get up a review as soon as I can. The author of the email isn't the author of the webcomic, which I find very interesting. I can't think of one time someone recommended a webcomic to me that they didn't draw themselves (or ink or write).

So, this morning I can't sleep and I think to myself, I should read this comic. I'm needing to deal with some personal issues and I figure this'll take my mind off of them.

This comic is so beautifully drawn that I really have no words to describe it to you. It is absolutely amazing. On top of that, it uses DHTML so that you point your mouse at a panel and the words appear (tool tip), which means they never distract the reader from the drawings themselves.

I haven't made it through the whole archives, but the story is according to the about page (I love about pages, hint, hint to webcomic authors everywhere): "ordinary boy with no memory of the past and no urgency for the future; who one day accepts a most extraordinary offer to travel to distant places and invisible cities." I'll let you read the credit page yourself.

You don't read this webcomic as much as you experience it. There's a feeling that you're looking at movie storyboards (very well drawn movie storyboards) and that you're to get the mood from the drawings first and then the words.

I don't know who gives out awards for best comics, but this one should get it.

Slacker Radio

I started listening to Slacker while at work. The concept is easy -- you pick 15 (or more) of you favorite artists and Slacker keeps the music coming. No playlist to fiddle with or choices to make. Still, you can make your own playlists or listen to the pre-set ones. Since my tastes are pretty out there, I can hear Johnny Cash's "Walk the Line" right behind Van Halen's "Hot for Teacher".

The best part is that it is all free -- yes, free! Sure, you can sign up for Slacker Premium (which I have), but you don't have to do so. There are benefits to having a premium account, like saving favorite songs to play out of your library and unlimiting skipping.

Tribal Wars

I found this online game called Tribal Wars. You build up your village and try not to get attacked. It's kind of like a slower moving Age of Empires, but online and with other players. It's pretty involved to take over other villages. Anyway, I just thought you would like to know about it. The game's free, but premium accounts are available. So, I'm reading my email and there's one from someone called Death. Hmmm, I think to myself, why would Death send me an email and I truly hope that this doesn't mean my number is up.

Anyway, it turns out that Death just wanted to point out an online comic called Akashik. Feeling relief that my number isn't up, I decided to check the comic out.

I asked Death for a logo and she provided the one above -- pretty cool. Death then tells me that she's looking forward to my review, "even if you rip us a new one, I can't wait to see what you think."

Well, I'm not going to "rip us a new one". I like the comic, even if I'm not really sure quite what's going on. I haven't made it all the way through the archives, but I do feel as if I've started watching a movie when it had all ready started. However; the drawings are very nicely done. The comic does have a nice storyline.

They want to print issue #1 via Lulu and they need to raise the funds to do that. So, if you enjoy the comic, please either vote for them or donate to them. Also, they have some cool merchandise over at CafePress. You should check out their store.

The Wannabe Pirates

The Wannabe Pirates is a twice weekly comic that tells the adventures of Captain Errol Flemm (the most famous pirate ever to sail the Caribbean) and his crew.

Now, it would be nice to have an About page (hint to Largent & McCrary), but there isn't one. I've gleamed from the News section that The Wannabe Pirates was originally a home movie that McCrary made with his friends. Largent (since he couldn't be in the movie) designed cartoon versions of the cast. Also, along with the comic, Largent and McCrary are working on a 3D movie of the comic in color. The pictures of the cast look great.

But, enough about the background, we start The Wannabe Pirates with Flemm and Mr. Sneeze beginning their life as pirates. I'm pretty much loving this comic. The drawings are sleek and the storylines are quick reads.

I'm looking forward to seeing the movie -- supposedly to be completed sometime this September.

Beyond Human

I took a look at Beyond Human this past week and I have to say, it isn't really my kind of comic. BUT, we all know that I'm not really a dark story comic person.

That said, I have to say Hal Jones has done a fantastic job with this comic. The drawings are dark and slick (but, not slick in a bad way). I'm not sure about what word I'm looking for, but they're cool. Really, really cool.

The storyline will definitely draw you in. So, give this one a chance.

Finally, I received an email from Sacha at The Black Cherry Bombshells. I owe a big apology to Sacha for not sending an email back, but I hope placing a link to the comic here will make up for it. The Black Cherry Bombshells is in a competition for a publishing contract with DC Comics. I think that's pretty cool and I'd like to help to put them over the top (at the time of the email they were in second place) . You have to read this comic. This guy posts comics that I would post if I could draw. Top this off with a blog that discusses his thought patterns and you’ve got a nice little site and a nice little webcomic.

Ugh, this comic. Of all the strips I’ve posted on this site, this is the one I want to pull down and fix. For one thing, everything is too bright white. I can’t read the thing without seeing spots. Second, who in the world washes their face after shampooing? And who wants to see this guy in the shower, anyway?
I’m leaving this up on the site anyway. Who knows? Someone might actually like it.

Let me answer his questions:
1. It’s a bathroom scene and a lot of bathrooms are white, so I don’t think you had much of a choice.
2. I wash my face after shampooing.
3. I could live without seeing someone in a shower, but that’s when I do most of my thinking.

Wii Anyone?

For my birthday, my wife bought me a Wii. Woo Hoo! I finally have a gaming system when it's still cool.

Anyway, my niece informed me that I'm too old for a Wii. Video games weren't invented for people my age. Nevermind that I practically grew up in the video game generation, I'm just going to hurt myself playing it and I should give it up.

Now, I'm forty, but nothing made me feel old until my niece informed me that I'm way too old to play Wii. I mentioned that I've been playing The Legend of Zelda: Twlight Princess. (I've been playing since Christmas and only on weekends. I've got 96 hours of play time and I'm not even halfway done.)

Well, apparently, I'm not even that cool anymore. According to my 14 year old niece, Legend of Zelda is lame.

What are you going to do? I guess I won't be talking to my niece about much -- at least not until I solve the game.

BTW, if anyone knows exactly when and where you find that damn pike fish, so I can get the sinking lure -- please post the answer. Stupid fish!

Fun In Jammies

Fun in Jammies is a twice a week comic about twin sisters, Nora and Gwen. It just started in August of last year. I read through the archives, which didn't take long, and I was impressed by the drawings. They are very well done.

The premise is that these two sisters -- one gay, one straight -- have graduated from college and are beginning the up and down journey of life with their friends and family.

Normally, I'd start a review with the logo of the comic I'm reviewing and end it with one of the comics from the site. Well, something is wrong with Blogger and I'm unable to upload any images, which is a true bummer. But, I didn't want to wait until they fixed the issue before I reviewed this comic - 1977.

One bright day, Bud sees an ad in a laundromat for a room for rent in the suburbs of Chicago. When he arrives at the house, he finds Jeff and the adventure begins. They team up with Lorraine and form a small rock group.

What separates this comic from just one big stoner fest is the artwork Bryon includes in the strips. In the very first comic there's an actual Pink Floyd poster. Even if I didn't find the comic entertaining and funny, I'd read it just to see the old 1977 posters.

This is a comic for anyone who can remember 1977 and anyone who only wish they could.

Yes, it's true, I'm actually posting here! It has been one very busy summer and I haven't read any comics -- worse than that my pc crashed and I've lost all my bookmarks to my favorite comics. When will I learn to back up?!?

Anyway, I just wanted to post to let you all know that I'm not dead and I'll be posting comic reviews and news again very soon. I'm open to suggestions, so if you have a comic you'd like me to review, please email me.

The Paranormals...

I received an email from someone requesting that I read and review the comic The Paranormals. Now, we all now that I'm not into storyline comics, but I figured I could give it a try, especially, since I haven't reviewed anything in quite a while. Anyway, this is a story about Rose who moves to the town of Cayce in California with her father. She meets Daniel and Preston on the first day of school and they form an uneasy trio.

After reading the first two parts, I'm pretty much hooked. So, here's the deal. The comic is fairly new, which means that this is a good time to begin reading. I suggest that you start reading it.

You'll love it. I've never steered you wrong yet.

Bet you thought I'd never review another comic again, didn't ya? Go on, you can admit it, I won't hurt you.

Anyway, there's only a 100 of the new webcomic f8d. f8d is about nothing and everything. There's a little stick figure man who philosophizes and spouts off his beliefs and thoughts. It's a little silly and a little thought provoking.

You should take the time to check it out.

I had big plans for 2007. I was going to review 3 comics a week and blog game and webcomics news on the other two days, but the plans of mice and men often go astray.

I took a new job. It's more pay, better hours and way cool, but it means that I'm really, really tired when I get home, so I've blogged maybe once in the three months I've been there.

But, don't give up on me. I'll find the time to find new comics and review them. If you have any suggestions, don't hesitate to email them to me!

Sandusky

Sandusky is the cutest strip I've seen in a long time. It's about Sandusky who is a mountain lion living as your run of the mill housecat. Sandusky lives with a human, Scott, and Bunker, a Siberian Husky/Australian Shepherd mix.

Sandusky gets himself in all kinds of trouble. This is an exceptionally well drawn and well written comic.

If you like cute, you'll like this comic.

Out There

This is an interesting webcomic. First, we meet Miriam. She's driving down the highway and spots some one walking along side. Should she stop, whe she keep going? She stops and ends up picking up John and we continue the ride.

I wasn't sure just where this comic was going. It took a long time for the artist -- R.C. Monroe -- to let us know what was going on, but it was an enjoyable ride. I read through the entire archives and couldn't wait to continue on.

This is a different comic for me. It's a evolving story and not my usual joke a day comic.

I've been enjoying hitching along with Miriam, John and the rest of the cast and I think you will too.

Rockwood

This is the most ridiculous comic. I mean, really, some rich guy buys a space station and these people "work" for him and live up there?

And, there trips to earth take like a day. How unrealistic is that? Totally unrealistic, except...

Snoopy flew his doghouse in battles against the red baron, so who am I to judge?

Seriously, I just now finished reading the last of the archives and I loved every comic.

The comic is named for Will Rockwood -- the comic's poor misunderstood straight man.

It includes Skip Sterling who is the trillionaire who owns the space station.

Next we have Mitch Ryder -- Naive optimist, first officer.

Followed by a one Mr. Al Vanguard -- Perpetual cynic, station maintenance. I love this guy and I think in real life, I know this guy!

Then there's Dana Lopez -- Harsh realist, station doctor. Because every male oriented comic needs a female voice of reason.

Finally, rounding out the human part of the cast is young Kepler Fulton -- Child prodigy, junior mad scientist. I know that there are kids out there just this smart and that scares me!

Then, no space station would be complete without a smart aleck, take over the world computer and in this case, that's KHAN - Station's control unit, HAL Jr. Pretty scary if you asked me. If my pc started talking to me like that, I'd give up computers forever.

Finally, rounding out the cast is the space station itself. Which I'm only posting a picture of because it's cool.

With visitors such as Bill Clinton and Castro, the station is never boring and neither is this comic. I think this is the most time I've ever spent on a review and it was well worth it.

If you're not all ready reading Rockwood, you should be.

Cubicle Gangsters...

Okay, so I'm minding my own business and I come across a new comic -- Cubicle Gangsters. It's got slick drawings and funny characters. Not really a funny haha comic, but a ironic one.

Anyway, it's been around since Sept. of last year, so I read the archives. Gotta take some time to check out this comic.

I haven't steered you wrong yet, have I? (Okay, maybe that one time, but we agreed to let that go, didn't we?

I have been somewhat bummed ever since Please Rewind became a dead webcomic. I don't get out much and do not purchase many comic books, so I'm left without my Please Rewind fix.

What's a gal to do?

Afterstrife...

Life's funny. When I posted on Sunday, I didn't realize that Afterstrife was such a new comic that I wasn't that far from the end of the archives and sitting at the current comic.

Anyway, since it is so new, I'm not going to spoil the exact situation, but the comic is about two young people -- Stitch (a guy) and Megan -- who have been thrown together in an unusual situation. The drawings are very well done and the shadows are very good.

This isn't a fly by night funny comic where it's a laugh and a half. This is a in for the long haul comic and I think it'll be well worth it.

Cosmo Bear is a new web comic brought to you by the gentlemen who do the Rob and Elliott comics. They haven't posted a lot, but I'm loving the graphics. Nicely done. I wish that they had launched with their 3x a week in tack, but hey, who am I to complain when I can barely get out more than one review in a week.

I have been trying for quite a while to read through the entire archives for Dume. I haven't made it yet. But, I didn't want another week or two to go by without reviewing this comic. It's about Dume who is a California Beach Otter and his roommate, Randall J. Cleaver, who is a chain-smoking raccoon. If that isn't enough to get you to read the comic, I don't know what it'll take!

Every one of these comics that I have read so far has brought a smile to my face. And, that's worth even the smallest of mentions on my humble review site.

Life's A Witch is a very interesting comic. It is updated daily -- although, she's been on a break. The main character (3 guesses anyone) is a witch, but she's not your ordinary witch. She's overweight and raising two children in a modern day world.
